Great Data - You Gotta Read This!

Our buddies over at Consumer Source aka “The Apartment Guide” have given us some GREAT data and allowed us to share it with everyone. There is so much to share that we’re gonna have to spread it out over a couple of days….hope you don’t mind. Here’s the first bit of information:

What Renters Want In a Property Website (or ILS Website), in order of preference:

1. Prices

2. Amenities

3. Availability

4. Photos

5. Floor plans

6. Map

7. Proximity to work (I think this gets handled with the map)

8. Length of lease

9. Crime rates

10. Videos

11. Proximity to schools (again, this should be handled by the map)

That’s really interesting information, but just to be accurate, those factors are what prospects want, not residents. I guarantee you that residents could care less about photos of their property, availability, or most of those other features. That may just be semantics to most people, but I think it’s key in how we plan and develop websites for our different sets of “audiences.”

By the way, it doesn’t shock me in the slightest that price is the number one factor. This might be somewhat of a contentious statement, but I think our industry has done a great job at convincing our customers that we are just a commodity.
